Torrential Monsoon Rains/flash-urban flooding Alert in Sindh & Balochistan
Met Office informed that the monsoon low-pressure area persists over eastern Sindh and adjoining west Rajasthan (India).
Under the influence of this weather system:
Widespread Rain-thunderstorms with scattered heavy /very heavy falls (extremely heavy at times) & accompanied with occasional strong winds likely to occur in Shaheed Benazirabad, Noshero Feroz, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot , Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Thatta, Sujawal, Sanghar distts & Karachi division till 19 August.
 

 Widespread Rain-wind/thunderstorms with scattered heavy /very heavy falls (extremely heavy at times) also expected in Lasbella, Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, Jahfarabad, Nasirabad, Kohlu, Zhob, Pishin, Qilla Saifullah, Barkhan, Musakhel, Chaman, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Panjgur, Kharan, Nushki, Awaran and Turbat from today to 21 August.
 The continuing wet spell over northeastern & southern districts of Balochistan to become intense during 18-20 August which may trigger flash flooding in Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot districts & downstream.
 

Impacts:
 Heavy falls may create water-logging/urban flooding in low lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Umarkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad khan, Tando Allayar, Dadu, Jamshoro, Noshero Feroz, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana & Sukkur districts today & tomorrow.
Heavy falls may trigger flash flooding/hill torrents in local nullahs of Zhob, Pishin, Chaman, Qilla Saifulla, Loralai, Jhal Magsi, Jafarabad, Nasirabad, Ziarat, Pishin, Khuzdar, Musakhel, Lasbella, Kalat, Quetta, Mastung and Ziarat during the forecast period.
Persistent heavy rains over Khuzdar, Lasbella and Hub distts of Balochistan & over Kirthar Range may create extra pressure on Hub dam, Thaddo dam & downstream nullahs.

Vigorous Monsoon activity in coming days
More Torrential rains predicted in Sindh, Balochistan and South Punjab

Met Office informed that a depression has developed in Arabian Sea which is likely to move towards west along Makran coast. Due to this weather system monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in southern parts of the country. Another low pressure (LPA) is likely to approach Sindh on 16th August. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain-wind/thundershower (with few heavy falls) is expected in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir from 14th to 16th August with occasional gaps.
  • Widespread rain-wind/thundershowers (with scattered heavy to very heavy falls) are expected in Sindh and Balochistan from 16th to 18th August with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts:

  • Heavy Rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas from 14th to 18th August.
  • Flash flooding is expected in Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Mosa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Panjgur, Pasni, Jiwani, Ormara, Gwadar and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan during the forecast period from 14th to 18th August.
  • Heavy Rains may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala on 14th (night) to 16th August.

  • Rainfall may trigger landslides in Kashmir, hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Chillas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer and Skardu during the forecast period.
  • Fisherman are advised to remain more cautious from 16th to 18th August.

More rains expected from 10th to 13th August, 2022

Met Office informed that monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in the country likely to become stronger from 10th August (Wednesday). Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eastern Balochistan and southeastern Sindh from 06th to 09th August with occasional gaps.
  • Rain-wind/thundershower (with scattered heavy falls) are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and parts of Balochistan from 10th to 13th August with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts:

  • Heavy Rains may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala on 08th and from 10th to 12th August.

Met office informed that the current weather system in Sindh and Balochistan has weakened in its intensity, as its core has shifted to south southwest of Karachi in Arabian Sea. However, it may give rain-wind-thundershower at scattered places (with few heavy falls) in Sindh (Tharparkar, Umarkot, Thatta, Badin, Sangarh, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Karachi) and Balochistan (Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kharan, Panjgur) from today (Evening/Night) to Wednesday.

Onset of Monsoon Rains
Torrential rains are likely in Sindh and Balochistan during the coming days

Met office informed that monsoon rains have started with the initial spells in parts of Northeast Punjab, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. More thundershower rain with isolated heavy falls are expected in these parts in the coming days. Strong monsoon currents are also likely to enter southeastern parts of Sindh and Balochistan from tomorrow. Under the influence of this weather system.

  • Rain-thundershower with heavy to very heavy falls is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Tando M. Khan, Tando Allayar, Karachi, Dadu and Jamshoro districts during 2nd to 5th July, 2022.
  • Rain-thundershower with isolated heavy falls is expected in Shaheed Benazirabad, Noshero Feroz, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki and Kashmore districts during the period.
  • Rain-thundershower with heavy to very heavy falls is expected in Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Kohlu, Sibbi, Awaran, Naseerabad, Panjgur from 2nd to 5th July, 2022.
  • Rain-thunderstorm with few heavy falls is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Noshki, Qila Saifullah, Mastung, Kalat and Coastal belt (Gawadar, Pasni & Ormara) during the period.

Possible Impacts:

  • Heavy downpour may cause urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Khuzdar, Ormara, Pasni and Gawadar during the forecast period.
  • Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local Nullahs/Rivers of Barkhan, Zhob, Sibbi, Panjgur, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Nagarparkar and Dadu
  • Windstorms may damage loose structures of vulnerable locations in Sindh and Balochistan.
  • Sea conditions may become Rough/Very Rough during 3rd to 5th July, 2022. Fishermen are advised to take extra care during the period.

Met Office informed that moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to enter in upper parts of the country from 29th June (Wednesday) which may intensify and expand to southern parts of the country by the end of this week. Under the influence of this, the expected weather will be as under:

  • Rain-windstorm/thundershower is expected in Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Hafizabad, M. B Din, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, T.T Singh, Okara, Sahiwal and Bahawalnagar from 30th June to 04th July. Isolated heavy falls are also expected during the period.
  • Rain-windstorm/thundershower (Isolated heavy falls) are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Loralai, Kohlu, Quetta, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Naseerabad and Sibbi from 1st July to 05th July.

MONSOON RAIN PREDICTED DURING NEXT 72 HOURS IN NORTHEAST BALOCHISTAN

Moist monsoon currents have started penetrating in the country. Isolated rain- thundershower likely to occur during next 24 hours in Sherani, Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Sibbi, Quetta, Kalat, Kohlu & Dera Bugti districts. The system would intensify and produce scattered rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy intensity rains in the aforementioned districts, from Wednesday (evening) to Friday (morning).

There is a risk of flash flooding in the local streams of Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Qila Saifullah and Kalat districts. All concerned authorities are advised to take precautionary measures, to mitigate weather induced hazards accordingly.

          MONSOON RAINS PREDICTED IN NORTHEAST BALOCHISTAN DURING NEXT 48-72 HOURS         

                      Moist Monsoon currents have started penetrating in southern parts of country. Isolated thundershowers with gusty winds are likely to occur in Sherani, Zhob, Musakhel, Qila Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Mastung, Sibbi, Ziarat, Harnai, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Bolan, Nasirabad, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran and Lasbella districts during next 24 hours. The rainy system may intensify on Tuesday evening and produce scattered thundershowers on Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated rainfall may occur in Quetta district during period.

                     There is risk of flash floods in local Nullahs of Zhob, Sibbi and Nasirabad districts .
